Roadkill

We had a GAWGEOUS weekend, and spent most of it outside enjoying the weather. As promised, we took the new bikes out for a ride and had quite the adventure.

Chris had Quinn in his new bike seat (which he LOVED!) and I had Aidan on the tandem with me. We biked down to the bridges (about a 20 minute ride) and then spent hour playing on the playset and watching the big ships go by. We headed back and that's when disaster struck.

The tandem connection came loose and started to swing. Well, poor Aidan didn't have a chance and fell off the bike while we were going at a pretty good clip. He flew off the bike and then proceeded to tumble. I immediately stopped, threw the bike down and ran to get him. The poor little dude scraped his face pretty badly, and was naturally pretty freaked out about the whole thing. I was holding him in my lap, and Quinn came up and sat down with us saying: "Aidan OK?" "OK Aidan?" It was so sweet.

Chris pedalled home with Quinn while I stayed put with Aidan. Thankfully the tumble happened on a walking / bike path, because I shudder to think what would have happened if we had been on the road. (let's not even go there)

Aidan's doing much better today, and luckily he just has some scrapes on his face. We'll see if we can get him back on the tandem once we have it fixed. It was such an aweful experience, especially since he absolutely LOVED riding the tandem. He kept telling me that I didn't have to pedal because he would pedal for both of us.

Lucky we have such a tough little guy!

Never Forget

This blog is meant to be a log of what's happening in my family's lives, but it also acts as a chronicle of what is going on in the world around us.

As I'm sure everyone is now aware, 32 people were shot and killed, and countless others wounded on Monday, April 16, 2007 at Virginia Tech. Bringing back memories of the senseless killings at Montreal's École Polytechnique, and those at Columbine H.S. we can never forget the memories of those lost in these tragic events.

Assorted goings on

Our weekend appeared to be very busy, but now I can't really remember what we did. It's probably that prego brain kicking in (hey, I've got 5.5 more months of using that as an excuse and I'm going to make the most of it!!)

Aidan got a new bike - a shiny, red, 16 in frame beauty. It's a tad too big for him, but I figure he'll be able to use it this summer and next. He gave it a try yesterday, and after some initial grumbling ("Mummy, I don't like my new bike - it's too hard!") He figured it out and was zipping along like always.

Quinn loves his new tricycle (thanks Nanna and Nannu), but he's really excited to try out his new bike seat on our bike. This one sits in front so it should be interesting to see how he responds to it because now he'll actually be able to see in front of him (instead of staring at our backs).

And, in more exciting bike news, we also got Aidan a tandem so that he can 'ride' with us. Essentially, it's a bar that connects my bike to a single wheel, seat and handle bars which he will use. He assures me that if I get too tired pedalling he'll be able to pedal for both of us.

The weather's supposed to be pretty nice on the weekend, so hopefully we'll be able try all the new equipment out without any serious injuries!!

Here comes trouble.....

It's official: baby #3 is on the way. Expected arrival date: Oct 12, 2007. Here are answers to some common questions we've received so far:
1) Yes, we do know how babies are made,
2) Yes, we love chaos and mayhem,
3) Yes, we are finding out the sex.
4) No, we don't care if it's a boy or a girl (at this point, boys are easier - it's all we know!!)

Here's a picture of the latest Pace-James:

The Great Mouse Rescue

So Harles at work found a mouse. For some, this would have meant bye-bye mousie - literally. Not Harles.

He grabbed some gloves, picked up the little critter and put it outside with some water and a cookie!! So, now my day is shot because I'm too busy watching this little mouse eat his cookie and crawl around outide.

Let's hope their aren't any cats in the neighbourhood.....
