Weekend goings on

This past weekend seemed to fly by. On Saturday my parents came up for a visit. For Christmas I got them tickets to watch Jesse Cook so they came up on Saturday night to spend time with the boys before the show on Sunday.

Sunday was jam-packed with hockey, tobogganing, and a quick trip to Chuck E Cheese. The kids just had a blast at Chuck E Cheese, and spent their time hopping from one game to another.

After we got back home, my parents and I hopped in the car and went to see the Jesse Cook concert. We had so much fun - if you ever get a chance to go see him I highly recommend it. He is a great guitarist, and the crowd here was so into the show it was just a blast!

Of course, no weekend is complete without some type of home renovation being involved. On Sunday afternoon our Garage Door opener died (which was expected - in fact, we thought we'd have to replace it when we moved into the house two years ago). Not being one to sit around and wait on things, Chris promptly did some research and went out and bought a new opener. With the help of my dad, he installed it this morning and that sucker is purring like no ones business. In fact, it's so quiet we keep double-hitting the button because we don't think it's actually working.

My parents headed home today so life returns to normal - until the next adventure strikes!

A trip to the Doctor

On Monday Shannon had her 15 month check-up. She's doing fabulously - growing just fine and hitting all her milestones accordingly. She was prancing around the office in her diaper charming everyone in site.

The funniest moment came after Dr. Tom left our exam room to go get the two shots Shannon would be receiving (Chicken pox vaccine and the final menengitis booster). When he came back into the exam room Shannon just looked at him and made this face as if to say: "What exactly do you think you're going to do with those things?!?!". It was PRICELESS!!! Both Dr. Tom and I started cracking up because her expression was just too cute for words. Of course, once the shots had been administered Shannon was none to pleased. But, she's not one to hold a grudge and was back to her usual sweet self in minutes.

You have to laugh...

It's snowing - again. It has snowed for about 3 or 4 days straight. This after we averaged about -15 degree temperatures for 3 days. Sigh.... I'm so sick of winter and this weather, but I refuse to let it get me down.

To keep a smile on my face and yours, here is a video a friend sent me which I think is hysterical. Enjoy!

I am so lucky

Sometimes I have to stop and think about how lucky I am. How lucky I am to have three beautiful, healthy children - each with their own unique personality and spirit. How lucky I am to have a fantastic husband who always thinks about us and appreciates how tough it can be taking care of the little rascals sometimes.

Case in point:

- On Tuesday Chris left before the kids and I because he's taking a course all week. It was the usual morning craziness trying to get the kids dressed and out the door in a timely fashion, so by the time I had everyone packed in the car I was just happy that we weren't going to be late for Daycare or school drop-offs. About 5 minutes into our drive, I looked over at the passenger seat and noticed that Chris had already put my laptop there, and had my coffee in the van waiting for me.

- Yesterday it was too cold to do anything, so the kids and I stayed home all day. Well when I woke up my back was killing me, and baby number 4 was making it very clear that she was in a partying mood. By 2:15 I was spent, so I went upstairs to lie down with Shannon who woke up from a 45 minute nap - which is definitely not enough! I asked the boys to play quietly downstairs while I went to lie down - to which they said: "no problem Mummy." I came downstairs half an hour later to find my two boys being very quiet and ...... cleaning! Yep, they got some paper towels wet and were busy scrubbing down any surface they could find - how sweet is that. I gave them hugs and told them 'thank you' for being so considerate, to which Aidan responded very sincerely: "Your welcome Mummy." It just melted my heart.

Wordless Tuesday

Haven't posted pictures in a while so here goes:

Aidan started basketball last week and just loves it - I think he looks so old in this picture!

Shannon has become quite the fashionista - she insisted on wearing her touque and coat inside!

I was grocery shopping with Shannon and Quinn, and Shannon decided to rest her head on Quinn - it was too sweet!

Snow and Birthdays

Houston, we have snow... again. This whole snow thing is a real Catch 22. On the one hand it's great because it looks nice, and more importantly, gives the kids things to do outside. I try to have my kids play outside for at least 20 - 30 minutes everyday, barring torrential downpours or freezing cold temperatures. On Monday night we got another inch or so of snow so the kids and I went out to play. It was actually perfect weather as the snow was gently sprinkling down and the temperature was hovering right around zero. As Aidan said: "Mummy this is great! It's snowing and it's like WARM outside!"

I even had Shannon out in her snowsuit, hat, mitts (which she just LOVES - note the heavy sarcasm here!) and boots. She actually had a great time. She was toddling around very determinedly (just like her mother!) and when she fell down she just looked up at me with a huge smile on her face. I pulled out her little sled, and she had a blast being dragged around the lawn in it.

The downside to all this snow is that it can get a bit depressing because it just reinforces that winter is in all it's glory, and probably will be for the next 2 - 3 months. In fact, we got another inch of the white stuff last night. Sigh - I'm trying to stay strong! :-)

We have two birthdays fast approaching in our house (well, Chris' is coming up too, but we usually don't make too big a deal out of that!): Aidan is turning 6 and Quinn is turning 4 (YIKES!). Aidan's party is all set - we're doing a party at the Y where they have a bouncy castle, floor hockey and toys all set up and then we move into a party room for cake and goodies. That one's easy - and it's not at the house so there's no mess or clean-up on my party!

Quinn on the other had is a bit trickier. I've already decided to bump his party up by two weeks since baby number 4 is due a day after his birthday. Originally I thought I'd just lump the two parties together and have them both at the Y at the same time - kill two birds with one stone right? Well, Mommy guilt has TOTALLY kicked in and now I feel badly for just lumping Quinn in with Aidan. After all, he deserves his own special day too! So, I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and have his friends over to the house and do a little party for him. Last year all he wanted was a PJ party, so we'll see what he goes for this year.....

2009 here we come!

So the holidays are officially winding down. I've managed to take down all the inside decorations (no small task!), so our house is (for the most part) back to looking normal. The boys were quite sad to see all the Christmas decorations come down - especially (and not surprisingly) the lights. But everything is packed away and ready to go into storage until next year.

We rang in the New Year in Toronto at my brother's house. The kids were convinced they were going to stay up "all night". They didn't make it all night, but they did last long enough to see the ball drop at mid-night. Then they crashed HARD! My kids have NEVER EVER been up that late, so it was quite an experience for them.

I'm not really one for making (and keeping!) New Year's resolutions, so I don't have many to share. Our plans for this year include:
1) Prepping for baby: T-minus 10 weeks and counting!;
2) Finishing the two bedrooms so we can move Shannon into her new room and have the boys fully settled in their room;
3) Fencing in the backyard (an absolute MUST since Ms. Shannon is into everything and anything!) and building a play-set;
4) Loosing the baby-weight post-birth and getting back into the fighting form I was in last summer;
4) Focusing on the positive, especially with the kids;
5) Enjoying life, and the fact that we are so lucky to have everything we have.

Bring it on 2009!!!
