Skating Spectacular

Saturday was Aidan's skating carnival. It was a chance for the kids to show off what they've learned over the past year.

I was a nervous wreck, as Aidan was less than enthusastic about the whole production. The first show was at 2:00, and on the way to the arena, all Aidan could say was: "I don't want to skate!" Oye.

Thankfully, the showman in him shone through and the little man did a FANTASTIC job. He was so proud of himself, and had a blast during the show. His second show was at 7:00 p.m., and he skated better than he's ever done before - Way to go AIDAN!!!

Mummy, I don't speak Spanish!

Aidan will be starting French Immersion JK this fall, so we've been trying to work on our French vocabulary.

As we were eating our yogurt popsicles after dinner, I said to him: "are the popsicles hot or cold?" To which he replied: "cold Mummy"

So clever me says: "Comment dites "cold" en français ?"

My even cleverer son says: "Mummy, I don't speak Spanish!"

Chris almost fell out of his chair he was laughing so hard!!

Mmm.... syrup

Today we went to the Maple syrup farm. First we stuffed our faces with pancakes, sausages, baked beans, fruit salad and muffins (it was deeeee-licious!), then we took a tractor ride out to the bush to check out how the trees were tapped and how maple syrup is made.

Did you know that it takes 44 liters of sap to make one liter of syrup? That's my interesting factoid for the day!

Here we are, all bundled up and ready to head out to the bush:

He's two!!

Happy Birthday Quinn!!

The little man sure knows his stuff - when you ask him about his birthday, the first thing he says is "cake! cake!!" We're not quite sure how he figured that out!

We had a small party with his buddies today - and the little man had a great time! Here are some pictures from the festivities:

21 degrees?!?! Are you kidding me?!?!

Yep, yesterday was a beautiful day. Clear, sunny skies and 21 degrees - on the 13th of March!!! Aidan and I were outside from 2:30 until about 6:30, we just couldn't get enough of the fantastic weather.

And, because it was so gorgeous out, I had to make burgers on the BBQ, and we had a picnic dinner outside. It was pretty amazing!

Of course, we're expecting rain today, and snow overnight.

Well, it was nice while it lasted!

Dust, dust - everywhere freakin' dust!!!!!!!!

Well the drywall in the basement is done. It looks AWESOME!! It's amazing to see the transformation from basically a concrete block with some 2x4's, to a fully drywalled basement. The rooms look HUGE!!

Of course, the major downside is the bloody dust. We have dust everywhere!! We've washed the floors on the main floor at least 4 times (in one day!!), and Chris has vaccuumed, washed and dusted downstairs until he's blue in the face. We even changed the filter on the furnace because the old one was clogged with dust. Grrrrr.... the downsides to finishing a basement in the dead of winter.

But, with the walls and ceiling up you can almost see the whole thing being finished soon. Of course, we still have to prime, paint, dry-core the floor, lay the carpet and laminet, put up the trim, doors, etc. But, we're almost there - really!!

As a complete aside - our Quinn will be TWO (yes, TWO!) in four days!! How is that possible? However, he is now known as "Pinn". Yep, he's figured out his name, but he can't quite make the "Qu" sound. So Pinn it is!!

Home Sweet Home!!

After a week in Hilton Head, we arrived home safe and sound.

The boys had a fabulous time. Quinn discovered a love for knee pads, and for walking around with his hands in his pockets. Aidan, LOVED the beach, and adored a game that Chris taught him: grab a handful of sand, throw it up, and try to hit it with a shovel. Fun times for all - especially if you happen to be downwind of the sand!!!

Chris and I had a wonderful time - we even managed to get out for a romantic dinner and movie! I managed to get a round of golf in, and by some miracle managed to squeak out not one, but TWO pars!!!!

Here are some pictures of our adventures:

Sun and torrential downpours

Hilton Head, here we are!!!!

We arrived yesterday, and the weather was FANTASTIC. Hit the hot tub, the beach - a perfect day all together.

This morning was overcast, but Chris still managed to get in a round of golf, and the boys and Brigitte and I hit the beach. Aidan single handily managed to collect virtually every seashell on the beach, while Quinn just had a blast tearing after the dogs!

Right now the rain has arrived in force - torrential downpour doesn't quite cover it. Who needs a shower when you can just go outside for a quick power wash?!?!

More updates to come once the sun comes back....
