I'm a big boy now!

On Friday, our new mattress and box spring arrived, so we finally got to set-up Quinn's big-boy bed. He was soooooooo...... excited about it, and kept running around saying: "Me sleep in big boy bed!".

Well, at nap time on Friday I asked him where he wanted to sleep and he said "NO CRIB Mummy, Big boy bed!" So he grabbed his blanket and hopped in. It took him a while to fall asleep, but eventually he did! Friday night was more of the same, and ever since he's been sleeping in his big boy bed like a champ! On Saturday as I was tucking him in he looked me right in the eyes and said: "Mummy, I love my big boy bed." TOO FREAKIN' CUTE!!!

Here are some pictures of him in his big-boy bed:

Now that Quinn's in his big boy room and bed, we are officially ready for the baby to arrive. The carpet is being installed in the basement as I type, so by the end of the day the basement will officially be DONE!!! Can I get a huge YAHOO!!!!! Chris has been working so hard to get all the last little details done, and now with the carpet in we finally have our basement back.

One last picture to share: last week Quinn was under the weather so we pulled him into our bed in the morning so he could sleep a little better. I got up before Chris and Quinn and managed to snap this picture of my two sleeping beauties:

And then there was a shed....

We spent most of our weekend building a shed in the backyard. One of the drawbacks to this house is that it doesn't have the oversized garage that we had at the old place (and that we never fully appreciated until we moved!). So, we bought an 8x6 shed and this past weekend was construction time. We (well, mostly Chris!) built the base a couple of weekends ago, so this past weekend we pulled out the ten million shed pieces, organized them and built the mother of all sheds.

It was really pretty impressive, we started at about 11:00a.m. on Saturday, had the whole thing up (but not totally screwed together) by 3:00p.m. the same day. We were back at it on Sunday morning, and were finished the whole thing by noon. Not bad considering I'm 36 weeks preggers and we had the two boys with us the whole time!

Actually the boys were awesome - they are definitely true boys. Give them some tools (especially a power screwdriver!) and they can entertain themselves for hours!

Currently Chris and I are working frantically to finish the basement, and move Quinn into his 'big boy' room. Chris finished the painting last night, and the carpet should arrive on Monday so then the basement will be DONE!!!!!! The new bed will arrive on Friday, so either Friday or Saturday night will be the big move for Quinn into his big boy room. Fingers crossed that he makes the transition to the bed a little better than Aidan did.

In other news, I'm totally bummed out right now. I managed to go 36.5 weeks through this prenancy without getting sick, but now I have been hit with the mother of all colds. Quinn's been under the weather for a couple of days, and I think I've caught whatever he has. Runny nose, sore throat, congestion headaches and general feeling like crap. Grrr.....

More from school

Aidan survived his first full day of school on Monday. It was so sweet, when I picked him up one of the first things he said was: "Mummy, I missed Quinn today." Then we went to pick-up Quinn from daycare, and one of the first things Quinn said was: "I missed Aidan Mummy." How cute is that? I never even thought that the two of them would have separation anxiety from each other but clearly the two are connected in a pretty special way. I gave me that nice warm and fuzzy Mommy feeling - maybe we are doing something right!!

Anyhow, here are some pictures of Aidan's fist full day:
Clearly he's bored with the whole school thing in this one:

Aidan and his pal Shayna:

He was just too darn cute in his baseball hat and backpack!

4.5 weeks and counting

Yes, it has come to this. My life is now defined by how much longer I have until this baby decides to enter the world. I confirm appointments and invitations with the constant disclaimer: "Yes, I'd love to come..... as long as I'm not in labour!" Ah well, the little monkey will be here soon enough, and we're all very excited about it! (although if Quinn asks one more time: "Baby out yet Mummy?" I may just loose my mind!!) Good news about this child though: she has flipped and is officially head down. Hopefully she'll stay put until D-day!

We went to Mississauga this weekend to visit Tush and Dave and see their new pad. The boys had a great time playing with Liam and Devan, and we even got to see Kenneth, Jacquie and Keiran. I tell ya, with 5 boys running around it can be quite entertaining!!

Aidan has his first full day of school today, but before that happened we had to watch the tree trimmers take down a tree in the back yard. Aidan was beyond excited about all the tools and saws the guys were using - although he was a wee bit concerned about how noisy everything was! After watching the guys take down one of our cedars we were off to school - which was kind of anti-climactic I think!!

First day of school

Today was Aidan's first day of junior kindergarten. He was (as he put it)excited and nervous about it. We went in for an interview with his teacher in the morning, and then he went back for the afternoon. He has his first full day on Monday. He was such a little trooper about it, carrying his backpack and lunchbox, and talking about big boy school. When I left him in the afternoon he was struggling to keep it together (a combination of nerves and fatigue - he was too excited to sleep last night!), but he did it!

Here are some pictures from the first day - too bad he's got such a goofy smile!!

Catching up

Yes I know - I've been slacking off when it comes to posting. I'd like to be able to blame pregnancy brain, pregnancy fatigue, etc. but I've just been a slacker! So, here's a big update:

Trip to Niagara Falls and Marineland:

We took the boys to Niagara Falls and had a blast. It was raining the whole time we were at Niagara, but we were prepared with raincoats, boots and umbrellas so it was no problem. The boys were real troopers and did a ton of walking. I have to say, I'm not sure which impressed them more: the spectacular falls, or all the puddles they jumped in!

The next day we met Kenneth and Keiran at Marineland and had great time seeing the whales, dolphins, seals, etc. The rides were also a big hit, but poor Quinn was a little sad because he was too small to go on a lot of them.

Trip to Cinci:
Following the Niagara Falls / Marineland adventure the boys and I took off for Cinci, while Chris stayed behind to work on the basement with his dad. The kids had a great time in Cinci visiting the Children's museum, aquarium, parks, etc. Of course, they also had a blast visiting Nanna, Nannu and Uncle Steven - they still haven't stopped talking about them!!!

Aidan's starting JK!!
Yep, Aidan starts junior Kindergarten tomorrow. We go in the morning for an interview with his teacher and then he spends the afternoon there with about half of his classmates. He seems to be very excited about his 'big boy' school, so hopefully he'll have no problem with the transition. I'm very excited, and apprehensive as well. I can't believe that my little guy is starting school already! It's strange because even though he's been in daycare since he's been one, this just seems like such a big milestone for him. Sigh.....

Pregnancy update:
The child is busier than ever, and seems to take perverse pleasure in constantly moving around in my belly. At my last ultrasound she was breach, and I have another ultrasound tomorrow to check on her position. Hopefully the little monkey has flipped! My body certainly seems to be preparing for the big day - the Braxton Hicks contractions have been coming on something fierce in the last week or so. Hopefully this child's not getting any ideas of an early entry into the world!
