Houston, we have snow... again. This whole snow thing is a real Catch 22. On the one hand it's great because it looks nice, and more importantly, gives the kids things to do outside. I try to have my kids play outside for at least 20 - 30 minutes everyday, barring torrential downpours or freezing cold temperatures. On Monday night we got another inch or so of snow so the kids and I went out to play. It was actually perfect weather as the snow was gently sprinkling down and the temperature was hovering right around zero. As Aidan said: "Mummy this is great! It's snowing and it's like WARM outside!"
I even had Shannon out in her snowsuit, hat, mitts (which she just LOVES - note the heavy sarcasm here!) and boots. She actually had a great time. She was toddling around very determinedly (just like her mother!) and when she fell down she just looked up at me with a huge smile on her face. I pulled out her little sled, and she had a blast being dragged around the lawn in it.
The downside to all this snow is that it can get a bit depressing because it just reinforces that winter is in all it's glory, and probably will be for the next 2 - 3 months. In fact, we got another inch of the white stuff last night. Sigh - I'm trying to stay strong! :-)
We have two birthdays fast approaching in our house (well, Chris' is coming up too, but we usually don't make too big a deal out of that!): Aidan is turning 6 and Quinn is turning 4 (YIKES!). Aidan's party is all set - we're doing a party at the Y where they have a bouncy castle, floor hockey and toys all set up and then we move into a party room for cake and goodies. That one's easy - and it's not at the house so there's no mess or clean-up on my party!
Quinn on the other had is a bit trickier. I've already decided to bump his party up by two weeks since baby number 4 is due a day after his birthday. Originally I thought I'd just lump the two parties together and have them both at the Y at the same time - kill two birds with one stone right? Well, Mommy guilt has TOTALLY kicked in and now I feel badly for just lumping Quinn in with Aidan. After all, he deserves his own special day too! So, I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and have his friends over to the house and do a little party for him. Last year all he wanted was a PJ party, so we'll see what he goes for this year.....

If you think this year is tricky, wait until this time next year when you have another 1st birthday to add to the party list.
My boys are 10 days apart both in March, but we have gotten them used to going out for dinner to celebrate at the place of their choosing as a family. We figure we are a party just the 6 of us. The easy way out!
