Well another Halloween has come and gone, and we have RIDICULOUS amounts of candy to show for it.
We started our Halloween festivities on Thursday by carving two of our pumpkins. The boys carved one all by themselves, and I carved Dora into one for Ms. Shannon. On Saturday Chris carved the final pumpkin and voila, we were ready to go!
The costumes were assembled and we thought we were ready to go, when Aidan decided that he didn't want to wear the mask of his "Spooky, Scary guy" costume, so we had to do some last minute change-ups and he quickly became a Knight (thank goodness we had extra costumes around!).
I took the kids around our street, and then Chris took the boys over to a friends neighbourhood, where there are more houses for maximum trick or treating opportunities. This year Aidan totally understood that the more houses you went to, the more candy you got. Chris said he has great potential in the "candy gathering" future, as he was a man possessed: sprinting from one house to the next in search of sugared goodies.
I'm not sure whether it was because it was so cold yesterday, or fears about H1N1, but there was a noticeable drop in the number of trick or treaters at our house yesterday. In fact, I think we only had about 30 kids show up. (the last couple of kids to arrive at our house were ecstatic as I unloaded our candy bowls into their bags).

Unfortunately, once everyone was home and the dust settled, the flu that we've all been battling hit us hard. Chris and I were completely out of commission last night with chills, aches, fevers - you name it we had it. Shannon was up all night with a hacking cough, and then Aidan got up complaining of a sore throat. This morning our house is awash in a cacophony of coughs - a wonderful symphony to listen to! Today will be a recovery day for sure (good thing it's Sunday and there is football on!). In fact, it is now 8:43 (not accounting for Daylight savings time) and the boys STILL have not gotten up. That's a new world record.
