This is what I'm saying to myself right now.
I got home from picking the kids up from school & daycare, and of course they want a snack. Marin also wanted a snack (of the breast milk variety) so I sat down and started nursing her.
Aidan went over and started 'cruising' the fridge and pantry. First thing he says is: "Mom, we need to go shopping - the fridge is empty!" DOH! (I didn't think he would start to say things like that until he was a teenager....) Then he said: "Mom, can I have some applesauce and soya nuts" (put aside your shock and disbelief over the fact that this is what my child wants for a snack and just continue reading) I said, "sure Buddy, but just wait until I finish nursing Marin."
Well apparently he didn't want to wait because he proceeded to get a new jar of applesauce out of the pantry. He tried opening it, and discovered that the lid on that sucker was on tight. He thought for a second, and then went to the drawer, pulled out a spoon and started whacking the lid. Then he tried to open it again and lo and behold he got it open! (the little monkey has obviously been paying attention when I open jars).
He then proceeded to get a bowl for himself and his brother, and dolled out the applesauce. Then he climbed onto the counter, and went into the cupboard to get some Cinnamon. Next, he grabbed the Soya Nuts out of the pantry and poured some into a bowl for him, and another bowl for Quinn. The last step was to get some spoons for himself and his brother.
Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor!
This child just opened a brand new jar of applesauce BY HIMSELF and then proceeded to make a little 'meal' for the two of them. I mean he's only 6 and 3/4 (as he's very quick to point out - the 3/4 makes all the difference!). I'm incredibly amazed and proud of the fact that he is so independent and capable that he can do something like this. I know I'm probably making a mountain out of a molehill, but seriously, how many 6 year olds can do something like this? I guess my little boy is quickly turning into a big boy!
