I decided to cram in a mini-vacation before summer ended. We've had a fantastic summer this year, but I still thought there were some things missing, so Chris and I took some time off work and off we went.
First stop: Greenview Aviaries. This is an annual trip for our family, and as soon as the weather gets nice in April, the kids start asking to go to the place with the 'big slide and zip line, and the llamas that spit. Yep, llamas really DO spit! So on Saturday we packed up the car and off we went. Well we couldn't have asked for better weather: clear skies, warm, but not humid temperatures, and a slight breeze to cool us down.
We had an absolute blast! And as much as I'd like to try, the pictures tell the story best:
I lost track of the number of times the boys went on the zip line:
Yep, they even have trampolines:
When you enter the zoo, there is this triceratops which is BEGGING for kids to climb on it:
Marin was fascinated by the ostriches:
Walking, walking and more walking!
By the time we left we were thoroughly exhausted, but happy. The kids all loved the park, and we grown-ups had a great time watching the kids be kids, and oogle excitely with them over all the animals there.
Second stop: Ipperwash Beach. On Sunday we had our annual friends trip to the Ipperwash drive-on beach. Confused? Ipperwash has a portion of the beach where you can literally drive your car and then park about 15 - 20 feet from the waters edge. Then, the water is super shallow for about 30 feet so the kids can wander out and splash around, AND the water is much warmer because it is so shallow.
The girls chilled in the shade of the cabana for a while:
We kind of screwed up and couldn't find everyone at first, so Chris and Marin set out on a hike to find them:
The boys spent hours building a 'hot tub' by digging a big hole in the sand and surrounded it with slate rocks:
Quinn practised his surfing:
And Doug fired up the BBQ, and loaded it down with sliders and dogs:
Yes, the van was filled with sand by the time we left, but it was another great day spent with friends, and who can complain about that?!?
Part two will finish off the rest of our adventure. More to come.....
