Whisked away

As a surprise for Chris' birthday, I planned to whisk him away to the bright lights of Toronto this past weekend.  This is significant for a number of reasons:
  1. We haven't been away from all four kids overnight since before Marin was born (more than two years!).  Ordinarily this isn't a big deal, as we really don't mind bringing the kids with us when we go somewhere.  However, both Chris and I have been feeling the pinch of parenting four little monkeys without reprieve - ever.  So my parents very graciously stepped up and agreed to watch the kids while I stole Chris away.
  2. I'm terrible at keeping secrets - let alone surprises!  I had this planned for two months, and somehow managed to keep the whole thing under wraps.
So on Saturday around 11:00 I sprung the big secret on him - except it wasn't a secret as certain family members had already spilled the beans! Oops - what can you do? That being said, he was still pretty excited about the prospect of heading off sans kidlets.

Off to our old stomping grounds we went.  We window shopped, wandered around, ate, drank, ate some more and visited with old friends.

Saturday night we had an amazing seven course meal at the Wine Bar. Each course was paired with an even more amazing wine.  I'm certainly not a food connoisseur, but this meal was UH-MAZING!  The highlights had to be the lobster ravioli and the peanut butter creme brulee.  Yum.  We followed up this debauchery by having drinks with some of our old Ultimate friends, reminiscing of times gone by when we could run like the wind and not cramp at the drop of a hat!

The next morning we went back to our favourite brunch spot, the Hot House Cafe, and ate ridiculous quantities of omelets, sausages, pastries and waffles.  My stomach hurts just thinking about it!

We finished off the weekend by visiting with our friends Emerson and Julie, their adorable daughter.

All in all it was a fantastic get-away and a chance for Chris and I to reconnect without little voices constantly interrupting us.  A HUGE thank you to my parents for watching the gang while we were away!
