The Doldrums....

We're in a bit of a lull right now.   Everyone is waiting for this thing called Spring to arrive.  I keep holding out hope that eventually it will get here.......

Life continues on for our brood, although nothing too exciting is happening right now.  We're just waiting.... Waiting for Easter.... Waiting for soccer to start in May.... Waiting for  Spring....Waiting for summer.... waiting, waiting, waiting.

In the midst of all this waiting brings time for reflection and deep thoughts.  Thoughts like:
  • this upcoming reno to the front of the house is going to mean chaos and lots and lots of money.  I don't think the term: 'hemorrhaging money' will adequately describe it.  I know in the end it's going to be fabulous and fix all the problems we currently have, but in the meantime I'm dreading it.
  • oooh... that tandoori chicken dish that I made last night was good, but waaayyyy too spicy for everyone.  At least we had ice cream on hand to put out the flames in everyone's mouths.
  • it's time to start planning summer activities and camps, even though it's only April
  • why can't our van just be reliable and dependable like Honda's are supposed to be?  Why oh why did we end up with the Friday night, last van off the line, lemon?!? Don't worry, I'm sure there will be a separate post detailing the latest problems in our debacle known as the mini-van.
At the same time, the relative 'quiet' also gives me time to be grateful:
  • Grateful for the fact that we have (thus far - knock wood, throw salt over the shoulder, etc) had a relatively illness free winter.
  • Grateful that instead of canvassing our neighbours for donations to help the family their Beaver troop has adopted, the boys agreed to 'earn' the money by doing chores and yardwork around the house.  I've never seen them so excited to make their beds, and put the laundry away!
  • Grateful for the blessed peace of work so that I can recover from our sleepless night last night courtesy of Marin.  Our usually easy sleeper has decided to scream her head off at night time, and also wake up screaming at 5:00 in the morning.  Not sure coffee is going to be enough today......
  • Grateful to see how big and mature the kids are becoming.  Shannon was crying this morning because she didn't like the leggings I picked out for her (apparently the leggings I chose are only for dance class!), so Aidan went in and comforted her and convinced her that it was OK to wear them to daycare because Mummy can just wash them.
There's so much more, but I can feel the effects of my first coffee wearing off.  Time to re-charge with more caffeine!

So so sorry about your van. That really stinks, especially since Honda's are so highly rated. You must have an odd one. Ours is older, but only has had the normal issues all vans have. Hope this is the last of your troubles!

You will love when your youngest is around four or five. It has been amazing to see the transformation for our family--we are able to enjoy the kids without all the silly distractions and stuff that was so hard for so long. (whining, spilling, squabbling, running out of steam on an outing...you know, plus the potty breaks and accidents) We've always done stuff together, but this last trip was really fantastic. Granted, they aren't perfect, but we both agreed that it was actually relaxing now to go to the beach or go out for a meal. And the built in babysitters just make it even better!! It's all good, but I think there is a period in there that is just wonderful. And then the girlfriends will start...
