The Big Adventure part 1

OK - deep breath..... here goes.....

Our alarm went off at 4:30a.m. last Tuesday morning so Chris and I woke up to get ready to go.  Ah who am I kidding?  I had been up since 3:30 because I was so freakin' paranoid that the alarm clock wouldn't go off!  Yep, anal retentive to the core - I know!

Anyhow, we got up early because we had to drive to Detroit to catch our flight to Seattle which left at 8:00 a.m.  Why Detroit - Seattle you ask?  Because it saved us over $2,000 to fly that route.  It doesn't matter how many people are flying,  you can't sneeze at  $2,000 savings.

Our flights were great (we had to change planes in Phoenix) and I've now decided that Southwest Airlines is one of my favourite airlines ever.  The flights were almost all on time (we only had one flight that was late, and even then it was only 10 minutes late), the service was great, and all of the stewards/stewardesses had the best sense of humour.  My favourite quote from them was during the security/ safety briefing when the steward said: "This is a non-whining, non-complaining flight.  Anyone who does this will be moved to a seat on the wing, and their in-flight movie will be Gone With the Wind."  I dunno - but my twisted sense of humour found this extremly funny!

We landed in Seattle, and as soon as we checked into the hotel we were out seeing the sights.  We hit the Space Needle, the Public Market, and generally wandered around.  Two of the best things we discovered were
  • the most... amazing....fountain...ever!  A woman at the space needle I was chatting with (what, you're suprised I struck up a conversation with a perfect stranger?!?!) told me about this fountain that was set to music (think of the fountain at the Bellagio in Vegas).  She said we HAD to take the kids there, so who am I to say no to a perfect stranger?  Turns out it was one of the best recommendations of our trip. This fountain was the coolest thing!  It shot out water to music, and it was ENORMOUS!  Quinn was brave enough to strip down to his shorts so he could get in nice and close.  Here is some video (link here for Facebookers):
  • a green-space right by the public market that overlooked the water.  We had an amazing take-out dinner which consisted of: Shrimp Ceviche, Shrimp Cocktail, fresh tomato, mozerella and basil sandwhich on a baguette, and fresh cheese curds while watching the world go by.  It was a great way to end the day.
Even though our time in Seattle was brief, we still enjoyed it.  We even managed to be there on one of the few sunny days!!

My old stompin' grounds! So glad you enjoyed your short time there. I definitely remember the fountain. My dad works right next to Seattle Center directing traffic, so it is possible that you passed right by him on the street and didn't know it.
