The Big Adventure part 3

After we saw the sites in Vancouver proper, we decided to rent a car to see more of B.C.

Best. Decision.  Ever.

We started by driving to Deep Cove, B.C a very picturesque little town  surrounded by lakes and mountains.  As soon as we arrived Chris and I both commented on how similar it was to Bellagio and Lake Como, Italy.  The boys rented a canoe and went canoeing (note to self - wait until they're a bit bigger, Quinn couldn't paddle at all, and Aidan could only paddle while simultaneously smashing his hand into the side of the canoe).  While they were off paddling, the girls and I wandered around, played on a playground overlooking the water and just enjoyed the scenery.

Inside Tip: While in Deep Cove, you MUST stop and Honey Donuts and goodies and have a sandwich, coffee and donut.  Their donuts are a cross between a traditional glazed donut and a funnel cake.  Yes, I said funnel cake.  Oh... my....calorific.  Definitely a gut-buster but soooooo yummy!!!

After Deep Cove we drove to Lynn Canyon Provincial Park.  What a breathtaking place.  I equate it to a more natural, rustic Capilano.  You cross a suspension bridge and then hike to a 30 Foot pool which has the most beautiful, crystal clear water I've ever seen.  If it wasn't so overcast and chilly on the day we went I would have jumped in for a swim!

Then we drove to West Vancouver and saw some spectacular views, overlooked by some gaw-geous homes.

The next day we took the Sea to Sky highway from Vancouver to Whistler.  This was one of the most scenic drives I've ever done.  Ocean, inlets, lakes, mountains, waterfalls..... it was extraordinary.  Once we arrived in Whistler we toured the Olympic village and then took the gondola up Whister, and then another gondola across to Blackcomb.    Again - it was AMAZING.  The kids couldn't believe there was still snow on the mountains, and had they had better shoes on I'm sure they would have stayed to build a snowman.  As it was we took a mountain-top hike which  was spectacular.  That being said, I've determined that Aidan is part mountain goat, because he maneuvered up down, around, through, over all the rocks and boulders like a native.

Driving back to the hotel that night was bittersweet, as we knew we had to fly back the following day.  That being said, it was a truly unforgettable trip, and we are so lucky to have been able to do it.

The view at Deep Cove;

Loved this sign!

Prepping to go exploring in the canoe:

Off they go!

Suspension bridge in Lynn Canyon - even more thrilling than Capilano!

Look at that water!!

We had to stop at Shannon Falls on the way to Whistler:

All I could hear was John William's Olympic Theme....

Mountains......

Sunset on the drive home...

And so we ended our journey.  Was it a lot of work?  Absolutely.  Was it worth all of the planning, stress and sleepless nights?  Most definitely!
