Apparently He's a Runner.....

Yesterday was the District Finals for cross country for Aidan.  Since he did so well at the City Meet, he qualified for Districts.

Well needless to say, I was a nervous wreck (as per usual).  In my twisted mind, the pressure was on for Aidan to repeat his first place performance.  In Aidan's calm, cool and collected 9 year old mind it was just another race (thank GOD the child does not take after me in the stressed-out, freakazoid mind games factor!).

We lucked out yet again with the weather, sunny and 23 degrees (dare I said it was a bit warm for the kids?!?).

The gun went off and the boys took off.  They were running fast.  I mean FAST.  I yelled to Aidan: "Run your own race!  BREATHE!!!"

He didn't even glance in my direction.  When they passed me he was in about 8th.

Yet again I ran across the field to get my position near the finish.

From my new vantage point I could see the boys running.  I saw Aidan (in his god-awful, yet highly noticeable shirt!) start to pass kids.  Then I saw him take the lead.  Then I wanted to throw-up.

Now in last week's  meet Aidan said he had a HUGE cramp during the race.  So much so that he actually walked for "like 10 seconds" during the race.  Who WALKS when you're leading a race?!?! Apparently my child.

"Well, I looked around and no one was near me, so I walked Mom."  Classic Aidan.

Anywho, back to yesterday's race.  I saw the lead runner come out from the trees.  It was Aidan.  Then I saw the second place runner.  He was pretty darn close.
See? The boy is right on his heels!

So (as per usual) I started screaming: "RUN Aidan!  He's right behind you!  RUUUUUNNNNN!!!!!"

And do you know what?  He did.  That kid turned on the jets and bloody well sprinted the last 150 meters.

And he won.  And he beat his time from last week by.... 20 seconds

Now I have to tell you about the little guy who came in second.  He also placed second in last week's city meet.  Right after the race the boy went up to Aidan, shook his hand, and said: "1 - 2 again.  Great job!"

Seriously?  How much class and grace and sportsmanship is that?
