Last week I drove Aidan to Kitchner for his game, while Chris stayed back and took Quinn to his first ever travel hockey game. To say Quinn was nervous was an understatement. The poor kid was like a deer in headlights!
Chris was texting me updates from the game - which proved to be a barn burner. Quinn's team was playing the defending champions from last year. A team that beat Quinn's team 10 - 0 both times they played them. The outlook did not look good.
Well, just goes to show you how little you can put in previous years results, because Quinn's team ended up winning 5 - 4! As Chris said: "they may as well have won the Stanley Cup we were cheering so loudly!!"
Here's a write up about the game:
Sarnia Novice Tier 1 Defeat Defending Champions
Monday September 30 , 2013
The Sarnia Jr. Sting Novice MD Tier 1, kicked off their regular season with an exciting 5 – 4 victory over the Defending Champion West London Hawks, at Clearwater Arena on Saturday.
The Sting fell behind early trailing 3 – 0 after the 1st
period, however, winning goalie Caiden Smit steadied the ship for the
Sting with some game saving saves over the next two periods. Adam Osler
got the Sting on the board with assists from Landon Buckingham and
Quinn James. Wil Vandenboom then scored on a breakaway to narrow the
gap to 1. West London replied to take a 4-2 lead before the Sting
turned it on with 3 unanswered goals.
Trent
Loxton scored with 13 seconds left in the second to get the Sting
within 1. Wil Vandenboom scored his second of the game, from Ryan
Vidler to tie the game. Ryan Vidler then scored the game winning goal
with 2 minutes remaining to cap off the comeback.
Sarnia’s
next games are Saturday at noon versus the Oakridge Areos at Clearwater
Arena and Sunday versus the Stratford Warriors at 4:00 PM at Sarnia
Arena.
You read that right, our Quinner got an assist! Needless to say, it was a pretty awesome start to the season for him.
