Tonight I took the kids to the park to watch Chris play Ultimate. Yep, the grizzled veteran that he is was called back to Ultimate duty. So we grabbed some dinner from Subway and headed off to the park.
The kids were un-FREAKIN-believable! They ate their dinner (somewhat - who can eat when there is a big park, swings and frisbees lying around!) and then off they went playing. First Aidan & Quinn played catch with a frisbee (it's a miracle neither was clocked in the head!), and then they were busy playing army guys. The highlight of army guys was Quinn running around with a huge stick shoved down his pants (which he declared to be his sword) and another stick in his hand (his gun).
By now it was about 7:45, so it was time to round the little rascals up and head home. As we were walking back Aidan spotted an old (non-functioning) cannon. Quick as lightening he yells: "I'm going to the cannon" which of course was quickly followed by Quinn bellowing: "Me too!" which was then followed by Shannon: "I go to the cannon too Mummy!"
I can't tell you how hysterical it was to watch the three 'big one' run off to the cannon. Marin was with me in the stroller, and there was Aidan in the lead, with Quinn trying his darndest to catch up to him. Then there was my Shannon. She was happily running after her big bro's, hair bouncing every which way, and her little bum wiggling from side to side while she ran as fast as her little legs could take her.
Upon arrival at the cannon, the boys quickly climbed up and started doing God-knows what. Shannon of course, had to climb up as well, so I lifted her onto one of the wheels where she proceeded to start shaking her bum while singing: "I'm the king of the castle" loud enough for the entire park to hear.
It was priceless! I wish I could hook the computer up to my brain so I could replay for you the moment. It was absolutely perfect.
