Three words you don't want to hear at the best of times, but you definitely don't want to hear them at 12:35 a.m. Unfortunately, that's precisely what I heard when I was awakened by the sound of footsteps running to the bathroom on Saturday night. I got out of bed and went to see what was going on, when I found Aidan leaning over the sink rinsing his mouth out.
"Mom, I barfed." was all he could manage to get out.
I went into his room to survey the collateral damage, to discover that not only had he "barfed" (man do I hate that word!"), but he managed to upchuck all over his bed, down the side of his bed (and consequently into the drawer that was partially open under his bed), on the floor, and the wall as well. Be grateful I'm not going to describe the smell, texture or consistency of it... sufficed to say it was N.A.S.T.Y!!!
Thankfully, the rule Chris and I have is that I take the child, and he deals with the clean up (I get the better part of that arrangement!!). So while he dealt with Aidan's puke-covered room, I dealt with poor Aidan. Who then proceeded to throw-up again.... and again.... and yet again. After the fifth time there was nothing left in the poor kid's tummy, so his body decided to torture him some more by having him dry-heave. Every. Twenty. Minutes.
Yep, that poor guy was running to the toilet every 20 minutes between 1:30 - 6:00 a.m. I can't imagine how sore his ab muscles and throat were.
By Sunday morning he was whipped. I told him he had a 'get out of daily life free' card, and only expected him to lounge in bed or on the couch. And that's just what the little guy did.
Despite that fact that we had a glorious sunny day with 25 degree temperatures, and the three other kids were running around the backyard without their shirts on, poor Aidan was stuck on the couch all day.
Thankfully it looks like it was a 24 hour bug, because today he was well-enough to go to school. Now let's keep our fingers crossed that no-one else in the family gets it!
