Grit and Grace

I came across an interesting article today on mother-daughter communication.

I have to admit, I have a deep seeded fear of parenting my girls when they become teenagers.  Heck, I'm terrified of parenting them when they're toddlers, girls, and pre-teens!

There is just something about the mother/daughter relationship that is so complex, so befuddling, and so precious that I don't want to screw it up. (Now having said that, I also don't want to screw up my relationship with the boys, but boys, well.... they're different)   Do it right and they'll be the next Prime Minister of Canada, successful artists, amazing activists, brilliant scientists, etc.  Do it wrong and they may end up on the street, or worse still, on the cover of some trashy tabloid magazine.

And then I came across this article, and the link to a very intriguing site called: The Grit & Grace Project.  Something about it really captured my attention, particularly their definitions of Grit and Grace:

| GRIT |
Firmness of character; indomitable spirit, toughness and resolution; unyielding courage in the face of hardship or danger.

| GRACE |
Freely given unmerited favor and mercy; moral strength; a disposition of generosity and kindness; favor rendered even when you need not do so.

These are two characteristics that I hope to instill in not just my girls, but my boys as well.  Two characteristics that will serve them well throughout their lives.

Now how I do this..... that's what I'm still trying to figure out.
