It's play-down hockey time for Aidan, which means he's playing hockey, hockey, and more hockey, and his team is fully into team bonding by altering their hair spirit.
Since he plays for the Sting, the team decided to dye their hair blonde and shave their numbers into the backs of their heads.
Beacuse I'm a do-it-yourself kinda gal (aka - I'm cheap) I decided to dye Aidan's hair with a box of blonde hair colour. I found the blondest blonde on the shelf, and happily it also happened to be on sale. BONUS! We gave him a bit of a hawk, and then slapped the hair colour on. 25 minutes later we rinsed it out and blew dry his hair..... only to discover that his hair was more orange than blonde. I used the left over dye (you know how every box of hair colour says: "Do NOT use the left over dye. Throw it out immediately" - I kind of ignored that) and he sat there for another 10 minutes. The result? Orange.
Yep, my attempt at blonde resulted in more of a strawberry orange. Oye.
So, I took Aidan to the barber to fix my mess.
She asked if he just wanted the tips of his hair blonde, but he wanted the whole top part blonde. She slathered the bleach on and said to him: "If your scalp starts to tingle, let me know right away."
To which Aidan said: "Mummy, what does she mean: tingle?"
I said: "If your head starts to hurt let us know."
Within 5 minutes Aidan said: "Mummy, my head's hurting."
The colourist raced him over to the sink and rinsed his hair out.
Attempt number two involved putting on a shower cap with holes in it. The colourist then pulled hairs through the holes so she could apply the bleach. Unfortunately for Aidan, each time she pulled the hair through it was excruitiating.
Poor little duder learned an important life lesson that day: beauty hurts.
Here's the little blonde hawked dude. Please ignore the goofy grin and the black-eye (a gift from his birthday party when he whacked himself in the face with his gun)
At least the number that I shaved into his head came out!!
Since Aidan went all out on the colour, I decided that I could use something different too. I went to the hairdresser on Saturday, and she put hot pink (technically the colour is called Wild Orchid) on a section of my hair. Needless to say, both girls want to get it done too!
