On Serving Cat Vomit for Dinner....

Mmmmm.... cat vomit!  Makes you absolutely ravenous doesn't it?!?!  Let me explain...

As the primary 'chef' in our family, I'm often at a loss for what to make for dinner.  Why is the word 'chef' in quotations you ask?  Because I am the first to admit that I am a solidly OK cook.  I'm not great, certainly not gourmet, but I can make an adequate meal that satisfies nutritional requirements, occasionally tastes pretty good,  while simultaneously not poisoning anyone in my family.  Hence the usage of 'chef'.

Anywho....

Last night I was really struggling about what to make for dinner.  Added to that was the fact that I haven't gone grocery shopping in a while.  Which meant that I was standing in front of the open fridge and freezer with a glazed, blank expression on my face.

I decided to make a ground-turkey stroganoff.  I thought of making beef stroganoff, but the lack of ground beef led me to turkey.  Wait.... no mushrooms.  That's OK, I had cream of mushroom soup! (see, pretty resourceful eh?!?!).  No sour cream.  No prob - that's what Greek yogurt is for.  And for good measure, I thought I'd throw in some peas to give it a bit of colour.  Crap. No peas either.

Oh well - dinner had to be made.  So off I went.

What I ended up serving more closely resembled cat vomit on egg noodles than any type of dish I'd ever made.

We all stared skeptically at the concoction on the table.  Aidan cautiously stabbed at it a few times to make sure it was dead.  Then Chris and I took a deep breath and prayed for the best.

It was solidly.... OK.

The kids gamely ate it (only after much prodding and bribery from Chris and I).

Lesson learned - next time we order pizza.
