Today was the city-wide cross country meet for our little corner of the world. Aidan is now old enough to join his school's running club, so he's been going to school early 3 days a week to practise.
Last week he ran in an 'optional' meet, and came 7th. Pretty damn awesome we thought.
Well today was the big-daddy. The meet where kids from all the public schools in the city came out and hit the dirt. It turned out to be perfect weather for the meet: sunny, and slightly cool - about 18 degrees. Great weather to run in.
Aidan and his buds did a walk through of the course - which is more than what they got to do at the previous meet.
The Cathcart Cooooooo-ggaaaarrrssss before the race:
Holy Crap that's a lot of U9 boys (86 to be exact)
Right before the race started, my heart started racing. I felt like I was going to throw-up. I was so nervous for Aidan. The gun went off and the boys took off. Aidan ran by in the lead pack. I quickly ran across the field so I could see him round the bend towards the finish line.
I was standing along side the tape which marked the route chatting with a couple teachers from our school. All of a sudden I looked over and said: "Look! There's the first runner!"
Then I paused.
And then I SCREAMED: "HOLY CRAP----- IT'S AIDAN!!!!!!"
And then I went nuts. I was screaming: "GO Aidan! GO!!!" His teacher was screaming: "Vas-y Aidan, Vas-y!!!" And as you can see from this shot, I was jumping up and down so much, I couldn't even get a clear shot of the child!
And he did it. He turned on the jets and finished first in the freakin' city!!!
And his time? 6 minutes 4 seconds, for 1.8kms!!!
After hugs were given, we had two very proud paernts:
And one super happy, supper tired boy.
Next week he runs in the county meet. I think I'll have to take some valium before that race.
