Bug be gone!!

Our weekend was spent battling bugs. Specifically, the common white grub, known as: Phyllophaga crinita in scientific circles, also known as a major pain in my a$$. Yes, our lawn has wonderful brown patches and has been ripped apart by our friendly neighbourhood squirrels and birds.

Soooo.... we spent Friday and Saturday ripping up dead sod, tilling the ground, unloading 1.5 cubic yards of topsoil and then re-seeding the lawn. We're keeping our fingers crossed that the new seed takes, and in July we'll have to have the 'professionals' in to bring out the big guns to kill the little buggers.

On a more positive note, we had FANTASTIC weather over the weekend, and after we had our natural gas hook-up we had our first BBQ of the year on the new BBQ. There is nothing better than burgers on the BBQ!!

Here is Ms. Shannon bouncing in the saucer as Mummy is busy pulling up sod:

Milestones

Well, the last couple days have been full of milestones:

1) Shannon got her first tooth! Yep, the days of drooling, runny nose and diaper rash were pretty clear signs that a tooth was on the way, and sure enough the sucker popped through and it is RAZOR sharp!

2) Aidan is riding on two wheels! We tried him out in Hilton Head and he did great but he still wasn't quite confident without the training wheels. Well last weekend we kept practicing with him and last night he rode to the park and back on his two wheeler. He can even start all by himself - what a star!

3) I ran 6km! I haven't run anywhere close to 6 km since before I had kids. I had always said that after I had Shannon that the Boys Home 10km was my fitness goal. So I started a running class two weeks ago and tonight we ran 6 km and I did it! When they told us we were going to run 6 km today I thought there was no way I'd be able to do it - but somehow I did. Next up - 10 km!!

Who knows what milestones are to come...

Out of the mouths of babes....

I took the boys to church today (no, I didn't get struck down by lightening!) and each boy had a priceless comment during the course of the mass.

Aidan: as they were doing the communion procession, he said: "Mummy, what's on top of that big stick?" (it was the cross!)

Quinn: as I am receiving communion, he sticks out his hand looks up at the priest and says: "Do I get one?!?" (meaning, do I get a host?!)

PRICELESS!!

Fascinating and scary.....

The sad thing is this is most likely true with my kids. You could set a cannon off in Aidan's room and he wouldn't wake up.....

Spring has sprung - I think

We had a fantastic weekend! Saturday was beautiful and sunny, so we headed off to the Detroit zoo. Unfortunately the bridge was jam packed so we turned around and headed to Storybook Gardens in London instead. The kids had so much fun running around in the (dry) splash pad (who knew a dry splash pad would be so much fun?!?) and playing on the climbers. Then we headed to a bar for a late lunch and it was the perfect place because it had video games and an air hockey table which the kids loved!

Sunday was another gorgeous day, and we were outside by 9:45. The kids went to visit Brigitte and Mac who were just back from Hilton Head, and then w e spent the morning gardening, cleaning the cars and playing with the neighbours. Then my parents stopped in for a quick visit - of course the kids kept asking why Nanna and Nannu couldn't stay for longer.

Today is Shannon's 6 month birthday. I can't believe that she is SIX MONTHS OLD! Where has the time gone? She is such a joy for our family. She is quick to smile and her whole face just lights up whenever she sees you. We are so lucky to have been blessed with three healthy, happy, kids.

Quote of the moment

I came across this quote and thought that it was too perfect:

"Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect; it means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections."

The past few weeks have been pretty rough on me. I think it's been a combination of things, including: the crappy winter-weather, hormones, and Aidan's behaviour. Our vacation totally screwed up Aidan. For some reason the change in routine and scenery affected him really badly and his behaviour went totally downhill. He was wild, disobediant, out of control, etc. Thankfully I think getting back to normal has really helped us and he's just about back to his normal, exuberant self.

The fact that it looks like spring might almost be here is also really helping. We actually went for a walk after dinner last night and it was fantastic! The boys were just trucking along talking about anything and everything, and we were out enjoying each other and the mild weather. I think I may be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and have learned that life and kids are certainly far from perfect, but it's the imperfections that make it so special.
