Soooo...... I decided to write some random thoughts which are currently floating around my noggin':
- It seems like Spring is trying to make an early entrance this year. I've walked to pick up the kids from school twice this week, and both times no jacket was required. I love walking home with the kids because they often chat with me a bit more than usual about their days (more than usual = anything greater than: "my day was fine Mom."), and by the time we get home they're nice and mellow (as opposed to when we drive home. For some reason when we drive as soon as they set foot in the house it's like wild beasts emerge!).
- I'm DELIGHTED that Spring is pretty much here, but unfortunately the warm weather could put a damper (literally and figuratively) on our trip to Harbor Springs where we were hoping to take the boys skiing for the first time. Good thing we've got Heidi, Robert and Robert there because we always have a great time with them regardless of the weather!
- Quinn is amazing me more and more every day.
- Example 1: On Sunday he was having a rough go at hockey. He just wasn't his usual chipper self (even the coaches were commenting on it), and was crying on the ice. Can I just say right now that there is nothing worse than watching your child cry under their hockey helmet from across the ice. I pulled him off the ice and calmed him down, and it turns out he just didn't like the game they were playing (it was like a game of tag, and since Quinn isn't the speediest of skaters, he often gets picked off first). After his little break he went back on the ice and skated like a demon! His smile was back and he was trying soooooo hard to work on his skating. I was so proud of my little boy!
- Example 2: Yesterday we walked to pick Aidan up from school. I said to Quinn: "if you want to walk that's fine, but you're going to have to walk there and back OK?" (in the past, Quinn has only ever been able to walk home from school - and even that was a chore) Well guess what - NO PROBLEM!!! The kid walked to school, played on the playground and then walked back from school without a word of complaint - UN-be-FREAKIN'-lievable!! (for the record, it is approximately 1.3km to school from our house, so he walked roughly 2.6 km).
- Example 3: Yesterday I made Miso soup with dinner (more on that later). I didn't think any of the kids would want it, so I just made bowls for Chris and I. Quinn pipes up: "Mummy, can I try some?" (whaaaat?!?!?! excuse me while I pick myself off the floor!). I made him a bowl and he ate the WHOLE bowl. Then he said: "Mummy, that was really good!" Ummmmm...... what have you done with my child, and will the real Quinn please step forward!
- Last Monday Chris and I started this exercise / diet program called P90X We're doing it to loose some weight (for me it's just the last 5 - 10lbs of baby weight) and get RIPPED!! (Anyone who's seen any of the P90X ads will appreciate this sentiment). So far it's going quite well and we've been able to stick to the exercise and diet regime pretty well. As part of the diet side of things, I've been making some more 'nutritious' meals (hence the Miso soup yesterday), some of which have been really tasty (the Island Pork Tenderloin salad was DE-LISH), and some not so much.
- I didn't take any 'before' pictures like the P90X literature suggests, because seriously - no one wants to see that!!!
